WORKSHOPS

The workshops run weekly and students lodge in Liz and Peter's lovely architect designed house. The atmosphere is warm and intimate as the maximum number is four which means everyone gets plenty of individual attention.
The house is yours for the duration of your stay and you will experience a
very relaxed work conducive week. The constant remark is the marvel and
positive enjoyment of just being able to concentrate completely on ceative
stitching knowing that everything else is being taken care of.
The 5-day workshops are designed to enable students to create a work of art in fabric, thread and paint. You will be looking at any one or combination of the following subjects:- aspects of the garden/ landscape/ trees/ pots and vases of flowers.
The methods used will be spray and hand painting, tiny appplications of material, hand and machine embroidery.
You will base your work on a drawing or from a choice of your own photographs brought from home
make the template for the spray painting stage
use the machine if suitable for your design and generally learn about good balance of colour, shape and appropriate materials for the scale of work.
Liz, who is an experienced, qualified tutor, will bring out the best in you whether you are new to this creative process or have had some experience. All levels are welcome, the main requirement being a desire to explore the stitched picture as art rather than technique.
There is embroidery every day with breaks for refreshment mid morning and afternoon. According to time available there will be a market visit one morning - if students can be persuaded to leave their work for a few hours !
The pool can be used at any time.

Workshop requirements:-

Your work will be fairly small scale - so you need lots of choice but not huge quantities of fabrics - bearing in mind the subjects will be landscape or garden and/or flowers. Liz will provide paints and equipment for the spraying (if you have a mouth diffuser bring it with you).
The week is fully residential to include the wines of the region (Côtes du Rhône) and Liz will host one meal out at a local restaurant.
